Anyone that has been around here reading this blog before will remember that I had migrated from WinXP to various flavors of Linux in an attempt to settle in with an OS (operating system) that would work well with my design work and general duties such as pictures, videos, image editing, graphic creation and site work. A lot of things happened along the way that headed me in the direction I’m in now with Ubuntu’s Hardy Heron.
Windows’ constant ability to freeze or crash right in the middle of a project was one of my main reasons for looking elsewhere for stability. Even though the installs of WinXP and Vista were as stable as they could be, all updates current….it made no difference. Thus, the change in OS’s was inevitable. Continue reading »

Just wipe the ‘ol drive clean and install fresh!
Seems my upgrade to Hardy Heron from Gutsy Gibbon the other day didn’t take too well. I was constantly fighting it seemed to keep things running, having to click things twice in order to get them to load, Firefox 3 Beta didn’t want to work with most of my plugins/addons and Firefox 2 didn’t want to work with Thunderbird. Not what I was expecting but seeing as I had backups for all my important files, A clean install was my next best option. Continue reading »

Upgraded my desktop yesterday morning from Ubuntu’s 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) to the latest version out now - 8.04 (Hardy Heron) and right out of the gate I noticed that Firefox wasn’t my usual Firefox anymore. It was now Firefox3 Beta. WTH?!
Hardly a plugin that I use would be compatible with FF3B now. Even Google’s famous browser sync failed to install. Not good.
After some testing I decided to give FF3B the boot and install FF2 right from the Firefox website itself and all my usual plugins installed normally again without issue. Continue reading »

For those of you that didn’t know, version 8.04 is now out and the poor servers are getting hammered with everyone that’s downloading it now. Download times are sporadic as hell and seeing as my ISP seems to have spilled molasses down the fiber-optic…I’ll probably need to just order a CD.
Either way, I’m interested in seeing what the new version has to offer. Can’t say that about Vi$ta. It pooped right out of the box and still is.
Thankfully we have a good alternative…..Linux!

Que the trumpets! Hear the roar of the crowds! Yeah! We’re back! (Yawn)
Well, it’s an accomplishment to get all this moved from one server to another (files/folders, database, etc.) and intact to boot. Seems everything is all back to normal once again.
What server? Oh, left that part out didn’t I. I’ve moved to a VPS server that will now be home to all the dynamically driven sites I’ll be working on now. No more needing to worry if a plugin is going to cause an issue with the shared environment or anything. No sirree! By gosh, if I’m gonna cause a problem, I’ll crash myself!
